How do I backup and restore my data?
To backup your Data:
- Insert a blank disk into your floppy drive
- Open Toolkit and click on Options | Backup Database.
- Select the A:\ Drive from the field titled "Drives."
- Select the library to be backed up. (TK.mdb is the default library).
- Click OK
Follow these steps to verify that the database has been backed up:
- Go to My Computer | 3 ½ Floppy A:
- If the TK.MDB file appears, the backup was successful, if the file does not appear, please try these procedures again.
NOTE: A possible cause of the backup not occurring could be that the disk is full.

To restore your Data:
- Go to My Computer | 3 ½ Floppy A:
- Highlight the "TK.MDB" file.
- Right click on the file and select "Copy" from the drop down menu.
- Go to Start | Programs | Windows Explorer
- Scroll down and double click on the folder titled "Program Files"
- Scroll down and double click on the folder titled "Toolkit3"
- On the right hand side you should have a list of files with icons.
You should have some empty spaces on the bottom right.
- Place your Pointer on an empty space and right click, then select "Paste" from the drop down menu.
- Select "Yes" if you are told that the file already exists.
- After the "TK.MDB" file appears, close Windows Explorer and open Toolkit to verify that the data has been restored.

How do I download prices from the Internet?
In order to download prices from the Internet you must have The Investor's Toolkit version 3.1 or greater. If you do not have Toolkit 3.1, it can be downloaded from our web site at no charge. Our web site address is : http:\\www.investware.com.
After the upgrade is completed, setup your preferences before accessing the Internet by following these steps:
- Open the Toolkit and select Options | Preferences
- Select the "Internet" tab
- Place a check next to Enable Internet Access.
- Click OK
Note: You must already be logged onto the Internet before using this feature.
Once the preferences have been set:
- Go to File | Open Portfolio/Pert
- Click the (W) Web button on the Pert screen then you will be taken to Yahoo Finance.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Ticker List and Right click on "Download Spreadsheet Format"
- Select "Save Target As"
- A window should appear titled "Save As" or "Save Link" as depending on your browser.
- Next to the field titled "Save In," select your "C:\" drive from the drop down menu.
- Select the Program Files folder.
- Select your Toolkit 3 folder.
- Click "Save."
Once the downloading is complete:
- Open the Toolkit and go to File | Update Prices | Import Price File.
- Select "CSV" from the drop down menu under "List Files of Type"
- Under "Folders," double click "C:\,"
- Double click "Program Files,"
- Double click "Toolkit3"
- Double click "Quotes.csv" when it appears under "File Name"
- Click Update

How do I download SSG's from NAIC's Web site?
- Go to the Shared Datafile Library within NAIC's web site (www.better-investing.org )
- Right click on the disk next to the company's name.
- Select "Save Target As" (Microsoft Internet Explorer), "Save Link As" (Netscape) from the drop down menu.
- A window should appear titled "Save As."
- Next to the field titled "Save In," select your "Desktop" from the drop down menu.
- Click "Save."
Follow these steps when the download is complete:
- Open Investor's Toolkit
- Click, FILE
- IMPORT COMPANY
- OTHER DATA FILES
- Navigate to the folder where the file was downloaded too
- The file should appear in the "Available" column
- Highlight the file, then click "Add"
- The file should now appear in the "File Selected" column
- Now click, "Import"

How do I create a new portfolio?
- Create a portfolio by following these steps:
- Open Toolkit and select View | Portfolio Manager.
- Select "Create New Portfolio."
- Enter the name of the Portfolio and click OK.
With that done, add companies to the portfolio by following these steps:
- Select a company from the list under the Stock Library on the right side.
- Click "Add Selected Stock to Portfolio."
- Enter the number of shares you own of the company, if you do not own the company yet, enter zero
- Click OK.
The company will now appear on the left side under the new portfolio.
Continue selecting companies from the Stock Library until the new portfolio has all the companies you desire.

How do I remove a company from a portfolio?
- Open Toolkit
- Click View
- Portfolio Manager.
- Within the field titled "Select Portfolio," select the portfolio in which the company needs to be removed from.
- Select the company once it appears under the portfolio and click "Remove Selected Stock from Portfolio."
- Click "Yes" if you are sure you want to remove the company from the portfolio.
- Continue selecting companies from the portfolio until all the companies you wish have been removed.

How do I perform a stock split for a company?
NOTE: To perform a stock split for a specific company, the company must be open.
- Open a company
- Select Split Stock from the Options menu.
- Enter the stock split ratio, such as 2 To 1,
- Select Split.
- If you are sure you want to split the stock, select "Yes" and the stock split will be complete.

How do I make the SSG larger?
- Open the SSG
- Click on the camera, which is located next to the yellow question mark above the graph.
When the "Select Zoom Percent" window appear, type 94 and select Zoom.
If the graph is still not viewable, change the percentage accordingly.

How do I enter notes for a company?
- Open an SSG
- Click on the small, white, rectangular icon that appears on the upper, left side of your screen to the left of the button titled Data.
- Enter notes for this company, such as:
What influenced your judgement of the stock? What was occurring within the company/industry at the time of the evaluation?
- Once the notes are entered, select Save at the bottom of the window.

How do I Import a Ticker List from Prospector II?
- Once the Ticker List is exported from Prospector II in *.fls format, complete the following steps:
- Open Toolkit
- Go to File | Import Company | NAIC Datafiles.
- Click on "From List" within the window titled Import NAIC Datafile.
- Select "Prospector Result" from the drop down menu under "List Files of Type"
- Under Folders, navigate to the location of the Ticker List that you exported from Prospector II, such as C:\Windows\Desktop.
- Double click "*.fls" when it appears under "File Name"

How do I upgrade from Toolkit to Toolkit PRO?
In order for you to upgrade from Toolkit to Toolkit PRO you must purchase the ProMaker from NAIC.

What is the ProMaker?
The PRO Maker will install the extra modules into Toolkit such as Stock Comparison Guide, Pert, Pert-A, Portfolio Management Guide, and Challenger.

Where is the Internet Access Button?
The Internet Access Button is only in The Investor's Toolkit version 3.1 or greater.
If you do not have version 3.1 or greater, you can download the upgrade at no charge from our web site www.investware.com. If you have trouble downloading, you may purchase the upgrade on a CD ROM by mailing your original floppies, Toolkit registration card (or register on line) and a $15 check or money order to: Investware at PO Box 551690 Ft.
